We both managed to sleep quite well but were up by 06.30. Breakfast was good and we were picked up at 08.30. Only a short drive to Ankor Thom where we had to queue again to get our passes which meant more photographs. There were hordes of people about, it being Sunday so there were locals adding to the tourist masses. Our guide explained that we go into Ankor Thom from a different direction to everyone else so we would avoid a lot of people. Basically the rest of the day was going round different temples, fascinating but it was very hot especially in the sun but I had come prepared with factor 40 so avoided my usual red nose! After our visit we asked to be dropped off in the middle of Siem Riep so we could have some lunch, it was OK but nothing special althougt the cold beer was very welcome. We then took a tuk-tuk which went via Pub Street (the clue is in the name), it was quiet but more on that later. Back to the hotel for a quick shower and then we were back in the lobby to get picked up at 15.30. Only a short drive to Ankor Wat. Again hordes of people, not many Europeans, mostly Chinese, Korean and Japanese, there are over 3 million visitors a year so you do the maths. Amazing place, every piece of stone has intricate carvings telling various stories. We stayed until sundown and then made our way back to the hotel. We had already researched and booked the restaurant for the evening. Another tuk-tuk, a little out of the way, Touich, is named after its Khmer owner, she cooks, and the rest of the family wait on. Again another great meal, red snapper baked in salt and pepper for me after a starter of banana flower and chicken, Fiona had grilled pork ribs after a starter of deep fried prawns. With wine $77 for the 4 of us. Again the tuk-tuk had returned for us and we asked him to drop us off at Pub Street, a completely different atmosphere to lunch time. The road was closed to traffice, lots of people, live music from various bars, Blackpool on steroids. Not that pleasant for us oldies so we wandered around for 30 minutes and then went back to the hotel for a nightcap.
