DAY 2: Snowtown-Cadney Park (South Australia)
Additional comments by Neil Sharon Terry and Tanya in italics
Once again we woke up at 5:30am and began packing up for the 10hr car trip that was ahead of us. Today we were headed for Cadney Park. We took our first stop at Port Augusta where a quick coffee was needed. We stopped at Glendambo for once again, mountain bread wraps and Tanya's coconut cake. Glendambo is a Roadhouse and a couple of tables and chairs. We were in the middle of nowhere. After a relaxing lunch, we were back on the road. We made many more miles before we arrived at the well known town of Coober Pedy, an opal mining town. Here we took some photos in front an Opal mining truck. Then we pushed on to Cadney Park. Travelling down the highway it was amazing to see the difference the rain has made in since the last time we were there, which was 2 yrs ago. Going from red sand and dry grounds to plants and water sitting in low lying land. We were stunned that Australia is known as the driest continent in the world, but to see water in the middle of the red centre, it should’ve been called green centre. We finally arrive at Cadney Park at 6.24pm and the camp ground was in the middle of nowhere. All there was was dirt for powered sites, a paddock for unpowered sites and a pub attached to the reception. The sunset and view was amazing and to see the million of stars lighting up the night sky in the middle of the outback, was a once in a lifetime moment. Tomorrow we are off to Alice Springs.
