Wow, that was a long plane journey. 12 hours to Singapore went pretty quickly as that's when I actually got my 4 hours of kip. Had an hour and a half changeover in Singapore, where I managed to deposit Joe's meatballs as requested, and then another 7 hours to Sydney. Couldn't complain too much because I had an emergency exit aisle seat. I could stretch my legs out as far as I liked. Get in!!
Landed in Sydders at 5:05am and managed to stumble my way through baggage claim and was lucky as hell at customs. They searched everyones bag except mine. Thanks Bruce!
Found my driver, Abe, and set off to Woodduck Hostel... Or so I thought. Turned up at G'Day Backpackers on Forbes Street, to be greeted by 2 ladyboys stood outside the hostel, later to find that our street corner is infested with them.
Abe dumped me in the lounge with 2 people I have still not met, and promptly left to go pick up 2 other people. I was not happy, the place looked like a drug den and I just thought to myself... "Well, at least Ive only got a week here". Shortly after being dumped on the couch, Jess came out of her room and kindly invited me to stay in their room and get some sleep. Woke up at about 10am and found reception to get my room key etc.
My first day in Australia was about 28 degrees and I spent the whole day soaking up the sun
on Bondi Beach. About 4pm went back to the hostel, had Bangers n Mash for dinner and was straight on the beer for my first night there. Later went to Sports Bar to watch a Man city game and discovered that Aussie's drink Schooners, not Pints.
Worked my way through "several" schooners and staggered my way back to the hostel. Found my room, hit the pillow and was out cold!
