Sydney: Part 2
Finally got around to updating our blogs! Unfortunately, this will be a fairly short one as there is not much to report! In our last blog we mentioned we were working for Smart doing door to door sales - a week or 2 after writing that, we left the company as we were starting to hate the job! The money wasn't as good as we thought it would be and we began the task of job hunting all over again. Dave joined several agencies, and was lucky to be offered a job in the I.T department at Aussie Home Loans, right in the heart of the city. He is enjoying the job (well, a lot more than selling electricity anyway!) and will be there until the end of July, which is perfect timing as this is when we leave to travel up to Cairns. I had to wait a bit longer to find a job (mainly because I didn't want to do waitressing or work in bar!) but I was eventually offered a job at Wicked Campers as a campervan cleaner, who always employ travellers for this role. The job is physically quite hard, but mostly fun and very relaxed - all the customers are fellow travellers so it's good talking to them about where they've been. And I am back behind the wheel after almost 4 years, although only parking the vans!
So we have been working hard and playing a little less over the past few weeks, as most of our friends have now moved on from Sydney - but this means we are able to save more money! A couple of weeks ago we jumped on the ferry to Manly, a lovely coastal town north of Sydney where we had lunch and sat by the beach. It very much reminded us of Newquay in Cornwall. We also visited the Royal Botanical Gardens in the heart of the city, which are beautiful. Check out the pictures of the fruit bats who "hang out" there, they are huge! Dave has also been enjoying running over Sydney Harbour Bridge at the weekends, and we had a brilliant view of the bridge and the Opera House from the ferry (pictures in the Sydney Album). In coming weeks we hope to visit the Sydney Tower, the Harbour bridge to do the bridge climb, Bondi beach and take a day trip out to the Blue Mountains.
We are still really enjoying our time in Sydney, although we can't wait to start travelling again. It is officially winter here now (although still warm and sunny most days!!), and it will be good to spend some time on the beach further up the coast.
Miss you all loads
Love Rach and Dave xxx
