We arrived in Sydney at the end of February, and after an exciting drive through Sydney City Centre (we will never drive our car through there again!), we found a campsite near Chatswood, on the outskirts of Lane River Cove Tourist Park. Straight away, we began looking for somewhere to stay in the city, but this proved to be much more difficult than we thought, no where seemed suitable, or had space for the car! After a week of spending hours a day in Internet cafes, we took a day off for Rachel's Birthday and spent the day shopping in Sydney and then watched the fabulous Mardi Gras Parade, although we didn't have a very good view! It was a good night though. The following week, we both had an interview at the sales and marketing company, Smart and started training straight away. It's door to door sales, which we know sounds awful (and sometimes it is!) but the money is good and we've met some wicked people, mostly travellers (just check out the photos, with all the nights out its like being students again!). We represent the Government owned electricity company, Integral, and basically go round offering people a pretty good discount off their electricity bill. Every few weeks, they ship you off in a mini bus to another place in NSW, put the whole team up in a hotel and we work in that area for a while - so far we have been to Uralla, Armidale (not the most happening places!) and Coffs Harbour, a great little coastal town. Smart is also a fantastic company for backpackers to work for, and we have already been told that if we want to train as managers and be sponsored by the company to stay in Oz, its a real possibiity for us both- but don't worry, we've not made any drastic decisions yet! The same day we started training at Smart, Dave had a call from a guy who had seen our ad on Gumtree (we put an ad on there saying we needed somewhere to live urgently!). He's a British guy called Iain, and offered us the second room in a 2 bed terrace he was renting - we went to see the house the next day and moved in straight after! It's about 2 minutes walk from where we work, and Iain's a really great guy - he manages a Jazz bar in King's Cross and sorts us out with free cocktails when we go in! We are having a great time in Sydney so far, we just need to stop going out so much and start saving for the next leg of our trip! We'll be working here for another 3 months or so, and then we'll take time out to do Sydney's attractions before heading up the Queensland Coast....we won't leave it so long next time to update the site, we promise! Missing all you guys loads.
