our adventure
Hey guys......we're now in Newcastle (which I keep on calling Newquay for some strange reason!!!). Have been here all week and its been really nice to have some time to spend just chillin' on the beach - we've both gone quite a nice colour now.
There is a surfest competition on at the mo, all the professionals should get here at the beginning of next week - just after we've left! We've seen some pretty amazing 13 and 14 yr olds surfing, including one girl who went out in a heat with 5 other boys because all the other girls were too chicken to get in the water as the waves were so big - go girl!!
Today was adventure day. We got picked up at 8.30 am and drove about 30km up the coast to a completely deserted beach in the Myall Lakes National Park. Our truck was 4 wheel drive so we let down the tyres and sped up and down the beach. On the way we saw about 40 dolphins who were having so much fun playing in the surf. Some even leapt right out of the water. It was truely amazing.
Then was a surfing muck about time. Dave managed to stand up on pretty much every single wave. You don't realise how strong or how big the waves are till you get in the water with a board. I got up to my knees loads of times and up to my feet for a few seconds - not good enough to enter the surf comp though!!!
We then went sandboarding on body boards. If you walked a few metres back from the sea, you were in the middle of sand dunes that went on for miles and miles.
Then we drove further into the park to a lake that was surrounded by tea trees. On the kayak we hopped and paddled out to chase the pelicans and jumping fish. It was really peaceful.
We both finished the day with some dijeridoo (not right spelling I know!) playing. Our whole faces shook when we got the right tone.
All in all its been a pretty amazing day with so much to see and do. Both of us are exhausted and have aching arms and legs!!
Catch you later dudes xxxx
