Day 40 - No change to the weather, but today was a change in direction as we made our way towards the coast. For an hour of mostly freeway driving we arrived in Pisa (not quite on the coast) and slowly made our way towards the Leaning Tower. Parking was a bit slow to find, and we no sooner found one and we were harassed by Africans selling sunglasses, sunshades for your windscreen and watches (with 5 year warranties). We soon found out why the parking was such a problem - the place was crowded. The Leaning Tower is located in the Piazza del Duomo di Pisa and is set around manicured lawns and beside a large cathedral, a baptistery a museum and dozens of tourist markets. With the visit to the church, the women could not walk in without their shoulders covered so were supplied with disposable shawls to wear whilst inside. Unfortunately we didn't get to climb the town as we would have had to wait 2hours as they hav time slots to climb even though it costs 18euro per person. We got back to the car after a couple of hours, dodging the Africans again, and headed for a small town further from the coast called Lucca. With another park outside & walk in, our first stop was a pizza cafeteria for lunch. This town's claim to fame is that it was the home of the famous composer Puccini. A few hours here and it was home to a nice ravioli and salad, and a few glasses of reds & whites.
