Day 33 - The clouds rolled in late yesterday afternoon, but no rain to spoil the trip up to Jungfraujoch, a mountain lookout 3500 metres above Interlaken. A local train took us to the base of the mountain where we changed to a train which uses a cog system to climb the mountain. Three train changes and 2 and a half hours later we arrived at the top. Even at 11,350 feet the thinner air had an effect on peoples breathing. Unfortunately the cloud had closed in and visibility was down to about 50 metres, but it was still possible to venture outside on to the snow. The strong wind certainly brought the temperature down into the minus's, so it was a pleasure to be back indoors. The building had several attractions including an ice palace, which was made up of a series of corridors (all made of ice including the floor) which displayed alcoves of various full size ice sculptures as you walked around. Another attraction was called The Sphinx, accessed by elevator to a higher vantage point with outdoor viewing. Not much to see again as the weather had not improved. The locals told us that this change only came in late yesterday and was expected to clear in about 4 days. The train trip down the mountain was slow and it was a relief to get back to our room and get rid of our warm clothing, as temperatures down in Interlaken were much warmer. We didn't venture far for dinner. Across the road from the hotel for the best Pizza we have had so far. It was an early night for an early start the next day.
