Day 34 - Our run of good weather continued for our early train trip out of Interlaken, arriving in Lucerne for a 6 hour stopover before continuing towards Como. Our journey into Lucerne was still as picturesque as yesterdays with the train travelling for kilometres beside huge lakes and through valleys of high mountains. Even though it is summer and a lot of the snow has disappeared, there were still some great waterfalls to be seen. The edge of the large lake in Lucerne was our venue for lunch. Many large tourist boats operated on the lake offering 3 and 4 hour cruises. About an hour after leaving Lucerne we had to change trains again at Arth Goldau then a 2 hour trip into Como. We were now in Italy. A short taxi ride got us to the Hotel Barchetta Excelsior. Our 3rd floor room had limited views of Lake Como but the foreshore was only a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Tonight was a special night of celebration as it was Phil's 60th birthday. We celebrated with a pleasant dinner in one of the many restaurants overlooking the lake. To sit and eat and watch the sun set and lights of Como around the lake start to come on was a special sight.
