Day 29 - He left Prague on schedule heading for our next city Linz, where we had to change to the high speed train into Salzburg (Mozart & Sound of Music country). Our travels were interrupted about 30km out of Linz by a track fault, so it was on to buses for about 20km, then back on to a local train to complete the run into Linz. We were a bit concerned that we may not make the connection at Linz as we had only a 25 minute turnaround. It all worked out for the better, as our Salzburg train did not leave on time. A bit slower than the Paris to Heideiberg leg on the TGV. We only got up to around 205kph. We got to Saltzburg around 4pm, found our hotel (The Holliday Inn) about 15 minutes walk away. With plenty of daylight remaining (city light start coming on around 9pm), we headed off to do a bit of sightseeing. We visited the home where Mozart lived and the home where he was born (located across town on the other side of the Salzach River which divides Old Salzburg from New Salzburg). The most amazing attraction today was the Mirrabel Gardens. The flowers were in full bloom and scattered among acres of manicured lawns. The gardens were made famous in the Sound of Music song "Do-Re-Mi". We found a great seafood restaurant called the Nordsee and walked off the meal with a comfortable stroll back to the hotel by 10pm.
