We are currently in the suburb of Balmain, Sydney. Our hostel seems nice & clean, and 10 minutes on the bus to the city centre.
We still haven't managed to get our car into the garage yet; the insurance company messed us about a bit and were reluctant to believe that we had damage towards the rear of the car too. We decided not to waste more time and set off to Byron Bay last Friday.
Byron Bay is a busy beach town; we walked up to Cape Byron to see the famous lighthouse and stood at the most easterly point on the Australian mainland. On the second day we went to the beach, as it was great weather.
The next stop was Coffs Harbour. We walked on the beach and around the harbour, and also went to see The Big Banana (Coff Harbour's nickname is the Banana town - as it is famous for growing bananas...obviously).
Last night we stopped in Newcastle, near yet another beach, and this morning we went for a leisurely swim in the Pacific before breakfast!
The drive into Sydney was a bit crazy because we didn't have a great map, and because we were trying to avoid toll roads! But eventually we found the hostel ok. We have taken our car to get another quote for repairs nearby in the same suburb. But since the insurance company have approved the repairs needed, hopefully things will move more smoothly this time.
We are going to try looking for some work here in Sydney, but only after we do the touristy sightseeing... starting tomorrow!
