Spent this morning with Jamie at the Temple of Heaven which was great! Firstly, on the way in, you have to travel through a park which was full of OAPs exercising. It was crazy to see them all so active; I thought nan and grandad were fit. They are also so sociable and up for impromptu singing and dancing (see videos for a giggle)!
The Temple of Heaven was stunning. The weather here is weird. There is no sun, just clouds and unbelievable clouds of pollution, but it's still over 30degrees and really humid so it's difficult to do anything without sweating, never mind when you play "Hacky Sack" with random locals for an hour (again see videos).
We had to say goodbye to Jamie after lunch which was a real shame. He has been great fun and a real laugh, he's also been our translator so it's going to be weird not having him with us to try to communicate with the locals. He has taught us some Chinese phrases though so hopefully we'll manage! :-(
This afternoon we hired bikes and saw Beijing in a totally different light, riding down all types of Hutong (alleyways). Some hutongs revealed the real peasants of china, but there was one section which reminded us a bit of Camden market as it was really chic and different with food from hamburgers and hotdogs to scorpions and Mongolian cheese. We ate and drank like kings for £7.50 (although no scorpions passed our lips!)!
Love to you all,
D&S x
