Hey, me and sarah have just got to sydney, its about 5pm and were knackered! We had a very interesting day yesterday- our OZ bus never turned up in the morning cus it had broken down, so our oz driver was there and he'd arranged for us to join the Mojo surf tour with their massive coach, so we joined them and went to surf camp (mojosurf run the camp there, oz experience takes its passengers to their camp for one night, so we just tagged along with mojosurf instead). We noticed the weather had changed overnight- it was cloudy and windy, like a storm was coming.
As soon as we got to surf camp, our coach nearly hit two surfers guys who were our instructors, riding pink bikes and grabbing onto the coach as we passed and getting dragged a bit. Seemed mental. When we got off it started to pour with rain, and we checked into a little dorm, each dorm was in a seperate shack building. Didnt look too great to be honest- the toilets are so far away as well lol.
In the pouring rain we had a bit of lunch, then went for a bit of a theory lesson in which the surfer guys were just threatening us with sharks etc as they like to do. We got into our wetsuits, which the guys had labeled- mine was called Super Slippery Nipples. Great. And it was a quicksilver one, everyone else had just a black one (why am i always given the one that stands out?!). It had a whole in it just above my bum aswel. Gits. Sarahs one had a not so nice name lol. wont say it.
Anyway, we got to the beach and it was proper stormy weather. We tried to see and hear the guy given some theory, then practiced going from paddling on the board to standing, and then we went to the sea. The sea was actually really rough, everyone had plenty of wipeouts! I had a couple, once my fins on the board just missed my face, and sarah got hit in the head by her board twice. They were softboards though, not too bad. The intructor helped us for a little bit but mainly they helped the mojosurf people because they had paid like 150 quid and ours was free with oz experience. We both stood on ours for like 2 seconds lol. We went bk to the beach knackered and aching! It wasnt til later that one of the instructors mentioned that it was really rough cus theres a cyclone over the east coast at the moment- north of here by fraser island, so we have the wind and rain from that. Great timing for me and sarah to have our first surf lol.
N.B. the place we surfed was called spot X- surfer talk for a secret surf spot. It was actually at Arrawarra beach, nice cus we were the only ones there and Mojosurf own the site.
The isntructor borrowed my board at the end and had a go- he had a proper wipeout, and one short ride. Made us feel a bit better lol.
We wandered bk, in the wind and rain lol, and had dinner and a drink. The surfers guys got wasted and generally just went completely mental, running about naked, wrestling, dragging innocent bystanders lol. They made a giant slide to run up to and body slide across it, making the most of the rain! One of them bashed his teeth in. Good entertainment for us!
We went bk to our dorm after a while, kinda sick of the rain to be honest- I nearly didnt surf cus it looked crap, but glad I did. The instructor took the piss cus were english- he thinks we love rain cus we live in england!
Me and sarah had the worst night of our trip lol- no sleep at all, maybe a few hours, cus people came bk to our dorm and woke us up all the time. One of the guys starting smoking pot in the dorm so we kicked him out into the pouring rain. Then the smoke alarm went off and deafened us. I hit it after pressing all the buttons and it wouldnt stop- it actually broke in half. Woops. Quiet after that. I felt bugs crawling in my bed, and at one point a big cockroach ran all the way down my arm. Yikes. Our cabin was also a bit flooded, dripping somewhere. And the site around the dorm cabins got flooded two, about a foot deep all around. like a little island! I started to get a migraine too, just to add to the worst night ever lol. And we had to get up at 5am for our early brekkie and early bus down to sydney- long drive of about 10 hours.
When we got here we checked into base, and were chuffed cus our room is brand new, new bathroom etc, all really really nice. We met a couple of girls from oz experience at surf camp- liz and sarah. Liz is at base with us, we all shared a taxi here from where the bus dropped us, and we'l be exploring sydney tonight together.
