Heya, me and sarah are at holiday village backpackers in Byron bay.
We had a nice second last day at surfers paradise- we had a good breakfast at a cafe in town, and went to the beach pretty much all day to work on our tan! Sarah wanted to chill for her birthday, we still walked miles though lol. Went round town afterwards and walked everywhere, saw loads of shops, ate out for once at a nice italion restaurant and the food was amazing. Then we walked all the bk to hostel, takes about 20mins by car, not sure how far it is. Found some parks on the way back to explore, and took photos of the sunset in the city and the grand prix starting blocks in surfers paradise.
When we got bk to the hostel we found that we had the dorm room all to ourselves for the last night, which was fab and we caught up on some sleep. We got up and spent our last day chilling at the hostels pool, which is a really posh pool. We even spent some time inside, which isnt like us lol- we watched tv for the first time since we started travelling. Couldnt resist the giant flatscreen tv and leather sofas in the common room! Our hostel, Aquarius in surfers paradise, is definitely the nicest weve been to so far. We had a massive brekkie for two dollars aswel. And their pool had a jacuzi :-)
We got our afternoon OZ bus to byron, only an hour journey, and checked into holiday village backpackers, which was a total nightmare! Someone from reception was high when they took my booking or something cus they only booked for one not two people (and they asked me on the phone like 3 times lol). So he said sarah would have to go in a full dorm but they'd put a mattress on the floor for her! And she only spends ten dollars less! I was put in a dorm with a member of staff, who turned out to be a total loony- completely off his head- when we got to my dorm he wouldnt speak, stared at me, then growled 'hello charlotte'. Dont know how he knew my name. He was so out of it.
Reception said if some people didnt turn up later then he'd move sarah to a proper dorm, but we would still be separated. Which neither of us liked. Especially me, I was freaked out in my dorm.
We went to meet our other OZ experience passengers in the cheeky monkey bar, had a two dollar meal, so cheap!! And had a drink, then came bk to reception and sarah got a bed in a dorm with some canadian girls, all nice, and her dorm was near to mine so it wasnt so bad.
That night we walked around byron, went to the beach and found a giant sandcastle that someone had made. I should prob have said that Bryon is a very hippy town- people smoking pot everywhere, all staring at something, hippies playing music everywhere. Its so relaxed here. Proper hippy town, some of the shops are really cool- crystals, loads of jewellery shops, tarot reading etc.
We came bk to our hostel and met again in the morning- I got woken up at 2am by the creepy guy (we cant remember his name, its a wierd name, so hes just called the creepy guy). He was accussing me of smoking pot as the whole apartment reeked (its like an apartment with a room which is a dorm room, nice layout- have sitting roometc). There were 2 french girls in the dorm with us and they didnt speak english but said it wasnt them. I said id never taken anything, and I also said i was pretty sure that it had been him! He had definitely been spaced out earlier. He then just fell asleep- hes been here a year, sharing a dorm and working here, prob never leave!
Anyhow, sarahs dorm had been all normal and we did plenty of walking the next day. Went up to Cape Byron, did captain cooks lookout point- nice view of the beach here, which is very busy, and we walked to the lighthouse. We walked along the most easterly point of australia, and right as we did that we saw about 20 wild dolphins swim along the coast- pretty lucky! Saw a sea turtle too, so nice to see them in the wild.
Walked bk to byron via a different route- through the national reserve jungle, which was beautiful- loads of ferns and the ground was white sand. We then got bk to byron, watched the local lorikeets and parrots for a bit, chilled at the beach here, then went and had a tarot reading! Wont say anything about my reading here, but it was really interesting, both me and sarahs were. They can really read you!
Next we ate out, this time having a more healthy meal- no pasta lol, actually had some cooked vegetables! We usually have pot noodles lol. We went bk to hostel to get ready and then went out- I got freaked out in my dorm again as the creepy guy was sat outside, eating dinner, and i went to get something inside, and when i was just by my bag he just appeared over my shoulder, purely to freak me out cus he finds it funny. Dont know he got there so quick! He follows me about too, saying nothing!
Anyhow, we went out to the beach hotel bar, which is owned by the guy from crocodile dundee! Massive, massive pub/bar- they had live music too later in the night, a house band called dirty laundry- and they were fab so we stayed there a while,. Eventually we went to the cheeky monkey and danced in there for a bit til 2am and called in a night- we though the music in there wasnt very good. Didnt meet any guys here, its all backpackers in this town, most of them a bit mental lol.
Today, we were a bit hungover but went for a daytrip to Nimbin, which is a very relaxed hippy town, lots of um...pot. cookies and mushrooms lol. Me and sarah just wandered about, saw a few biker guys, no police. The story here is that the police are so relaxed with the drugs because the hippies drove some troublesome bikers out of town once. It was a cool little town, loads of cool shops. I got some jewellery.
We went to a local market after, saw a wild koala in a tree! And brought some real cheap fruit and fruit juice- again trying to eat healthier lol. I brought a silver ying yang ring, and a leather bangle.
Our tour bus, which by they way was loads of fun- cool driver and ace music, took us to a national park and we went to a lookout point near the Minyon waterfall. Huge waterfall, massive drop into a stunning valley with cliffs and tropical rainforest. The group went bk to the bus to eat some watermelon that the driver had got, while I wandered off and walked downstream to the edge of the waterfall- got some very cool pictures! I then went bk to the walkway and just got to the bus in time when everyone was leaving. Me and sarah fell asleep on the bus, missing most of the journey bk- we saw mount warning though, the extinct volcano that made most of this area around byron.
We walked round town again and mostly chilled at my hostel- I have two more guys in my dorm with the creepy guy, who are really nice, live near us at home in england! Very good guys, I might go the cinema with them later but I might not as Im falling asleep! Its either that or hide out at sarahs dorm cus im not being alone in mine with the creepy guy lol! Sure hes prob not that bad, just not used to being in a dorm alone with a stranger. Anyhow, tomorrow me and sarah have a an early morning bus that goes south to Sydney! We stop at a place called Surf Camp for one night, have a free surf lesson! And then were off to sydney, driving for ten hours and getting there about 5ish. Cant wait to have a surf lesson, and see sydney!! xxxx
