Today was my first full day and I spent it doing the typical sightseeing stuff in Paris. First however I took the Metro back to the station and sorted a train ticket to Amsterdam on Wednesday. I'll also get a small amount of time in Brussels on route.
After this I decided to walk in the direction of the River Seine which I knew was south of the station. After many backstreets I eventually came across the Louvre which I believe is the museum that holds the Mona Lisa painting. I wasn't interested in going in but the actual museum and the courtyard that contains it is worth some photos itself.
Next I headed towards the Eiffel Tower. Walking in that direction was nice, some cool parks and a chance to walk along the river with the Eiffel Tower in sight.
I then fell for the second scam in two days. Again I lost nothing more than what I'd give to a tramp if I was in a generous mood and to be honest, now, I find it funny that I keep falling for them. Again it was stupid but that will hopefully be the last. For those reading this at home, don't worry, I basically always have my hands in my pockets. No one is getting in those.
Next I spent about an hour trying to find a sandwich for lunch. Plenty of pharmacies and sushi bars. I just wanted a sandwich. I eventually found one of those nice "supermarkets" you only see in Europe (fruit out on show outside the shop, that type of place) and managed to grab my long awaited sandwich and some other stuff. I had this lunch sat on the grassy areas that the Eiffel Tower overlooks. Had to be done.
I then headed in the direction of Notre Dame but on route came across some pretty cool places. The highlight of the day was in a area called Sorbonne - contains a university and student restraunts, bars, libraries and shops. Brunel and Uxbridge - take note. That's what I call a student area. I got myself a beer and chilled out before seeing the Notre Dame (and more God stuff) before retracing my footsteps so I could see the Eiffel Tower lit up at night. Took the Metro back to the hostel and went back to the Sacre Coeur. Wasn't buzzing as much as last night but it was still cool. Spent a good 11 hours on my feet. I'm gonna be so much more healthy when I get home!
Got back to the hostel and met the new people in my room. They seem cool but tomorrow I have to change rooms as that was all they could do for me when I asked to extend my stay.
