Here I am in my Paris hostel after a day of mainly travel and getting a brief idea of my surroundings. It all started at 7am and, having only just made my train, the general trip from Polegate train station, to Kings Cross and onto Paris went well and on time.
Having arrived in Paris I fell for my first, and hopefully only, scam of the trip - literally within minutes of getting off the Eurostar. It was a stupid one to fall for but I only lost less than a Euro so it didn't bother me too much, but I was still annoyed I fell for it. Basically what happened, some cute teenage girl comes over "Do you speak English? Do you speak English? Can you sign this French form to help deaf people?" I did, then she said I had to give a donation. I gave her around 50 cents but she said "minimum donation 3 euros". I was like "lol b****" and walked off. Lesson learnt.
Rest of the afternoon is now a bit of a blur. But I do remember my search for this hostel that seemed to take an eternity and when it was eventually found I had to walk up the largest set of stairs ever. I checked it and then had to walk down another 3 set of narrow stairs to my room. Was knackered and spirits were low.
I then set off again for the evening and enjoyed a pizza while watching the S*urs game. I then headed off to find the Sacre Coeur cathedral that I had heard had great views of the city. It did. Probably one of the best places I've experienced. On the steps up to the cathedral, that over look Paris, music is played and beer is drunk. Quite simply awesome. The cathedral is free to go in, so I went and saw a lot God stuff and then rejoined the party outside as the sunset.
I then wondered this Montmartre area and saw the Eiffiel Tower in the distance - will head in that direction tomorrow. Feeling pretty tired but I'm excited for the days ahead.
