After a LONG day at the airport and a 14 hour flight, I'm finally in Australia! I arrived to, "The Gong" as the Aussies would say), yesterday (Sat. 16th) and I love it! The beach is literally a two minute walk from Campus East (the pace I live) and it is just a beautiful view...not to mention the plenty of men in speedos...gag me with a spoon. I have met so many people already though and I have mainly been hanging out with four American girls and one of them actually goes to school in Madison. All the Australians are so nice though and their accents are oh so wonderful! I could just sit and listen to them talk all day long, especially the little kids cause they just sounds so dang adorable! Three of my roommates are Australian and one is American and they are all really nice. The Australians definitely make fun of my accent and they always call Americans "sepos" because they think we are like septic tanks and just full of crap. Apparently they don't mean it in an insulting way though.
The last two nights, everyone from Campus East has just hung out on the "slums" lawn and drank and played ridiculously old school music like the Spice Girls and Mamba #5. It is just weird that since people can drink at 18 here, people drink outside the dorms and the University doesn't care. The Australians have told me that they big nights to go out here are Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, which is completely different than in the states. All I want to find is a pub that has karaoke so I Australia can have the honor of hearing my wonderful singing voice ;)
Today we took a mini tour of campus and it is a really beautiful campus. It seems pretty spread out and I will most likely get lost i'm sure a handful of times. Not much else super exciting has happened besides the WARM weather and going to the beach everyday! Although, I did meet a girl at the mall today who was around my age who had every fingernail painted a different color and I thought to myself, "I think we would be very good friends."
