I should probably be doing some readings or igo bed, but I would rather update you on my adventures! I have some good news and I have some bad news...what would you like first?? The bad news.. okay, here goes....you might want to be sitting down for this one... well, the bad news is.... my camera is broken. I know what your thinking... how is Dana Swedberg, the picture queen, going to survive without a camera available to her to capture every second of every day? Well no worries, cause I plan to buy a new one before my New Zealand trip, so you will be seeing plenty more pictures! The good news though is that I went surfing!! And not only did I go surfing, but I successfully got up four times while I was surfing (as you can see in the picture!!!!) It was so much fun! The CIEE program took us to Seven mile beach in Gerringong and we had about a two hour surf lesson. It takes a little while to get used to catching waves, but after a while, it is fairly easy to catch a wave while laying down. Standing up is the hard part. I got up about four times towards the beginning, but towards the end, my arms were so dead I couldn't even get the strength to push myself up. Even though I wasn't that good, it was still very fun and I for sure want to go again! After we surfed, we got this awesome meal at the Boat Fisherman's Club and got to overlook the ocean, it was beautiful!
Last week a two of my roomies, Pam and Kate, and then some American friends of mine went out to eat at Chili's near by. It turns out that it was their last night because they had gone bankrupt.....sad story.... but I got a free drink, a margarita glass and a margarita shaker out of it! Our waitress was super nice and was letting us take things home cause it was her last night. My friend even managed to pry a picture off the wall to take back and hang in his room. It was a fun night, but now that I write it out....I don't think it sounds as fun as it was.. oh well!
So this weekend, I went to Fitzroy Falls with ECU (Evangical Christian Union) for a weekend away. The drive up was gorgeous, there were huge trees and it just looked like a rainforest all the way up. It did, however, remind me of when I was about 10 years old and drove up to Mt. St. Helens with my family and some family friends and the roads were so narrow and windy that I got car sick and not only threw up, but threw up in my hands because I didn't want to get the rental van dirty. The rest of the trip I was called "stinky breath". Well luckily, I didn't repeat that wonderful memory, but it was pretty nauseating driving on the narrow, windy roads. The weekend was really fun though and I met a ton of people! I was the only American there, so it was really fun to be surrounded by all Aussies. They were all so nice very welcoming! I got to go to Fitzroy falls and see a gorgeous waterfall and valley. Everywhere was just beautiful and there was this huge lake right by the place we stayed at and open fields all over. I got to dominate in some sand volleyball, play some mafia and chinese whisper(aka telephone)/pictionary over the weekend also. There was also a big challenge between faculties (each major is within a different faculty, so we split up according to faculty) and my faculty won, which was really fun! We had to buld a water balloon launcher, play balderdash and do other random activities that were related to each faculty. The theme of the weekend was "beyond facebook: making true friends" so all the talks were on friendship and they were all really good. And of course at night, we had a bon fire and sat around and talked and sang, which was a ton of fun! Pretty much everyone knew how to play the guitar, so they just passed it around and switched off playing different songs (some were by Aussie artists though, so I had no idea what they were). It made me really want to learn how to play the guitar, but that would mean I would have to cut my nails, and I don't know if I am willing to do that quite yet. Speaking of my nails,a few people have commented on the length of my nails and I have even told them that I want to grow them out until they curl, cause I think it would be funny, and they aren't weirded out, or at least they act like they aren't weirded out! I guess I'll find out how they really feel depending on if they coincidentally never run into me at uni anymore!
Well I suppose I should be off to bed, or start reading for class! I apologize if you feel as if I have neglected you if you have written me an e-mail or facebook message and you have yet to get a response from me. A reply is on the way... I promise!!
