Lets take this gig global!!
Alright guys,
well, Im writing this on yet another low day as it is officially my last day in NZ (for this trip at least!). I cant believe another country is done and dusted! Its been an absolute blast over here though even with the frequent bad weather!
So, Ive been in Auckland since Sunday night and its been pretty sweet. I hadnt heard very good things about this city but to be honest with you I have no idea what those people were talking about! I think its a pretty funky, energetic place with a fair few things going for it.
I have been staying in a (kinda posh!) district called Parnell which is pretty quaint and nice. On the whole though I havent done too much. Had a fair bit of admin to sort through and then on Monday I spent most of the day cruising all the art galleries which included some of the best ones Ive seen so far, especially the quality Urban Gallery on K-road.
In the arvo the sun popped out so decided to hit the sky tower and bumped into Mark (of Cool Bananas crew) again on the way so he came up aswell. this is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere and is visible from every angle and area of Auckland. Now you should know by now that I am not the best with heights so was a little apprehensive about the whole thing. Fortunately Mark shares my fear so we edged ourselves round like too petrified little girls!!!!!! You cant walk outside (thank God!) but dont really need to with the 360 degree views and clear glass floors looking down to the streets below! Got some good pics but was pretty sketchy the whole time so I was pleased to be back on firm soil afterwards!
That evening I met Mark at his gaff to watch the premiership highlights (well done pompey and reading by the way!) then we headed out for a quiet few beers. Unfortunately we bumped into the crazy Irish lasses from Rotorua and well....you can guess what happened next!! Yep, stayed out til the wee hours of the morning but it was good fun nonetheless!
So thats pretty much it for Auckland, Ive been to a few parks and gardens and done some window shopping but thats about it really. Oh yeah, I also ended up getting the worst hiarcut in the world yersterday too! One of those $10 jobs and some Turkish guy pretty much gave me a skinhead! Was not a happy bunny, so if I look like GI Joe in the next few photos you know why!!
I am facing a cosy night at the airport tonight before my early morning flight to Fiji tomo. Should be fun! Im just praying for some sun in Fiji as I have heard mixed reports so far, One guy was there for a week and didnt see the sun once!! Crazy days!
Fingers crossed,
take it easy peeps and fairwell NZ!
Dan
