We had a nice but uneventful drive to San Francisco today. We stayed very close to the border with California and we were both struck by how quickly the landscape changed from green pastures and lush forests to drier more desert like surrounds. We also got our first look so far at farms filled with food crops, including rice paddies, olive groves, oranges and other fruit trees.
We arrived at our hotel in the mid afternoon. We are staying on the other side of San Francisco Bay, in Berkeley; home of the very well regarded University of California, Berkeley campus (go Bears!) Our hotel, and spa if you don't mind, is really nice and affords a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco. There is also plenty to do in Berkeley and surrounds, so we are looking forward to exploring over the next few days.
