Hello Again, We are in Siem Reap and have just been to visit the temples of Angkor. We cycled the 2km from town to see Angkor Wat at sunrise, joined by our friend Erin whom we met in Laos and Vietnam.
As the sun rose behind the temple, turning the sky pink, we sat in awe at its size and beauty. Walking around the temple it was still clear to see the intricate carvings that adorned every surface. We followed Angkor Wat with a part ruined temple that has been used as a set in the tomb raider films. There were huge trees and vines growing out of walls and piles of collapsed stones. We felt like we were in Indiana Jones!!
Over the day we cycled to a few more temples one of our favourites being Bayon, constructed by an old Khmer king with hundreds of carvings of his own face, highlihted by the early evening shadows. It was an amzing day and definitely one of the highlights of our trip, even if it did get rather sweaty cycling around in the midday heat!!
We left Cambodia to head for some well deserved R&R on the south Thailand Islands. We arrived on Ko Tao after a gruelling 28 hour journey consisting of 3 taxis, 2 buses, 2 tuk-tuks, a minivan and 1 boat, grabbing some rest on the way by sleeping on a wooden bench in a bus station. However we did beat the cost of flying by about 150 pounds!
love a very tired liz and dale xxxx
