We all slept very well after our huge day of travelling yesterday and it was around 8.30am when we surfaced for breakfast. Everyone was in good shape, especially the birthday boy (Jase) and we got showered and dressed and headed off to do some exploring along the strip. Some light rain made us stay inside the casinos and we headed north to check out all the foyers and great Christmas decorations of places like Bellagio, Caesars Palace and the Venetian. The rain in California and further north has been welcomed by all concerned but is playing havoc with travellers, delaying all forms of transport, while up in the mid west heavy snow is falling! Hopefully a little bit will get down as far as Washington DC while we are there - especially on Saturday!
The rain got heavier after mid day and we caught the monorail back up to the Miracle Mile shopping mall to do some browsing, stopping for a sensational slushy cocktail - I had a 190 Octane - which sparked us all up no end especially when Jase and I had an extra shot in ours! We only had a 500ml ones while you could a yard glass which held about a litre and a half - enough to blow the top off your head!!!!!!!!
By this time it was about 4pm and while Mumsie and Katie when shopping for some make-up Jase and I shot back to our unit for a nap! When the girls returned we lazed about for a bit - I did some travel blogging until we walked over to the Cosmopolitan Casino & Resort next door which is the newest one on the strip and boy what a flash joint it is! All glitz and glamour of course, but quite tastefully done thank goodness! We spent a while in there sussing out all the different folks gambling and socialising - not sure where the recession is!
Because it was Jase's birthday we splurged a bit and found a nice Italian restaurant where we had a fantastic meal, and then wandered over to the Bellagio to watch the fountain show. It was still raining - such a contrast to when we were here last time in the stinking heat of summer! So much more enjoyable in the cool weather and there are no where as many people about!
So that wraps up our first day in Las Vegas, the forecast is for more rain tomorrow and then thunderstorms for Thursday when we supposed to be going to the Grand Canyon! b*****! Hopefully it will blow away before then - fingers crossed!
