Our first day in Darwin, after getting our bearings, when spent the afternoon and evening at Mindil Market. The food and sunset were amazing. After leaving the market we free camped at a local club at Casaurina.
Monday, we checked in at Lee Point Resort and stayed beside Keith and Wendy May.
During the week we:
- experienced some aboriginal culture, saw Sweetheart, learnt more about Cyclone Tracy at the Museum
- explored and learnt a lot about the bombing of Darwin at the Australian Aviation Musuem
- sat inside the bomb cavity of a B52 bomber, the only one in Australia.
- received a phone call from Keith letting us know not to hurry back to camp as a double fatality had occurred outside the caravan park and it was in lock down mode.
- went to the wharf and bought banana prawns for $15.00/kg
- spent three days out at Hidden Valley Raceway watching the V8 Supercars from the Monster Platform
- had many a happy hour with Keith, Wendy and many others.
- Keith dropped Wendy and us off to watch the V8 Transporter Parade, while he went and got a heap of mud crabs. Keith showed us how to cook, shell and eat the mud crabs. They were delicious.
- went back to Mindil Market on Thursday night
- did a fantastic sunset dinner cruise over Darwin Harbour on Friday night. Four course dinner, byo and great company
- went back to the wharf and yes, bought more prawns.
