The next morning we did two escarpment lookouts, this time in the bus. The lookouts overlooked Victoria River and the township of Timber Creek.
We had been told about the Zebra Rock Mine back in Darwin. It's just before the WA border. We drove out via Duncan road, 15 kilometers of dirt, corrugated roads. We met one of the mine owners, Ruth, on arrival. Only $20 per couple, so we pulled in for a night. Once settled we went into the gallery to look around, the Zebra Rock is an amazing sight. The mine is the only operating Zebra rock mine in the world. For dinner we cooked up a fluffy vegetable pie with salad, as we were getting close to the border and needed to finish off our fruit and veggies, or surrender.
In the morning we did the mine tour with Ruth and Opal (Ruth and Kym’s daughter), which was a very interesting and informative tour. After the tour back to the bus to pack up, had fish and chips for lunch before heading off to Keep River National Park.

Cuppa Hiya both,I didn’t know the zebra rock mine was out near the border. There’s a ‘shop’ on the outskirts of Katherine which sells all things zebra rock which the bloke goes out & collects, perhaps from the place you visited? I just assumed it was somewhere nearer Katherine. Cold, wet & with the possibility of hail or even snow here for the next few days, I’m sure you are not missing it. :)
