So we flew to South Africa with Qantas who had a very classy system for watching films! Touch screen and on demand! Nevertheless, i fell asleep for that flight...
For the first time in a long time we saw and felt rain! We travelled with Oli to his home about an hour outside Durban, called Hilton. We met Oli's lovely wife Mandy and cheerful one year old Cameron. Beer and a burger for 12 rand was a great delight before going to sleep for a long time. We hung out for a couple of days and got over the flight from Australia. When Oli had some time off from the country club kitchen he took us to the wildlife park not far away. We didn't see any elephants but saw Zebra, Springbok and some lions. The lions tried to take on the tires but failed this time as we motored on. We then paid a brief visit to a Bird Sanctuary in a light drizzle. Later that week we went down to Howick Falls and took a walk on the wild side with our guide Ben to the foot of the Falls. We also paid to play some adventure mini golf. It was a mini golf course carved into the rock! Awesome! 12 pigs were present during our round of golf and various other animals. That afternoon we went down to the Mall near Petermaritzburg and I stupidly left the lights on! More on that story later! We had some lunch and browsed for a short time then returned to the car. After failed attempts to start the depleted battery a friendly South African stepped in saying "Oh there is a knack to it". He started it first time and off we went.
Later that week we visited the pub and the following morning we went to Karkloof zip line adventure. We got taken up the hill in the back of a 4x4 and clung on. We zipped down in high above a foggy forest before enjoying lunch at the bottom. On the final Sunday Craig came down with something horrible and so we drove down to a South African theme park called Usharkaand left Craig to be startled by monkeys in the kitchen. They had dolphins and a huge aquarium and fish bigger than Cameron, much to his pleasure. After watching the end of 24 series 7 and lots of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares the week came to an end and we prepared for our journey to Cape Town. Oli took us down to Durban prior to the flight and we embarked on our penultimate flight!
