Our Australian Adventure begins...
July 5th - 7th, Friday - Sunday morning:
We started our 4 weeks holiday on a farm 12km from Scone. We picked up Sanmari (my Ausie teacher friend from Bremen) in Sydney. We loved it on the horse farm with Alison and Peter, their 2 married sonsand 3 grand sons.
We landed in Sydney and drove to Scone. Sarath took a wrong exit and we didn't get on to the highway but followed a very lovely winding road through the country side.
We stayed on the farm for 2 nights. Saturday we took Sanmari to the station to take the train to Armidale. The evening Peter and Alison invited us to 'tea' (dinner) at a pub in Scone. Alison took us on a ride with a 4x4 ranger, Peter showed us around, we were treated to lovely meals and they really made us feel very welcome. We are planning to visit them again before we leave ....
July 7th-8th, Sunday till Monday:
Armidale & Tenterfield
We arrived at Bert and Alison Jenkins beautiful home in Armidale around 13:00. After lunch we went to the Art Gallery, I was impressed with the paintings of WW2. Alison showed us the New England Uni where she lectures. We also saw a kangaroo close up in a fenced area next to the Uni!
On Monday morning after breakfast with the fireplace burning, we drove to the Centro Shopping Mall where we met up with Sanmari at a coffee shop. Alida and I enjoyed seeing people who were more bigger built and to find normal size clothes and shoes! (In Bangkok the people are rather small and therefore also the clothes and shoes.) At 13:00 we left and drove until about 17:15. We saw a nice camping place in Tenterfield and decided to overnight there. Was it cold!!! -7 degrees C.
July 9th, Tuesday:
We stopped at Wallangarra the border between NSW and Queensland and bought mince meat and eggs at the butchery. We stopped again in Stanthorpe to buy onions.
After stopping and taking pictures at some interesting places along the way we finally decided to stay over in Ipswich, about 40km before Brisbane. It is less cold here than what it was in Tenterfield last night.
July 10th, Wednesday:
We enjoyed eating South-African Ouma rusks with our morning coffee at 07:00 in our camper-van. The sun is shinning and the birds are chirping cheerfully!! Seems like it is going to be a beautiful day.
