YAY!!!!! I have now landed in Bangkok! Woop Woop
The 11 hour flight was not so bad. Me and Mark managed to sleep most of the flight so was much better than aexpected. When we arrived at the Airport Annes mom and step dad (Miget) met us and drove us to the hotel.
The first thing i noticed about Bangkok is the ridiculous driving! There are no rules!!! Everyone just drives manic!! As a pedestrian, you need to move outta the way cos they will not stop for you, not even on a zebra crossing. I worked this out when a scooter nearly hit me down the back alley by the hotel!! Mark thought this was funny... Im sure i looked.... but that scooter came from nowhere!!
You dont have to wear a seat belt here either which i kinda liked, until we started driving in the centre of Bangkok and Tuks Tuks and scooters appear from no where cutting people up left right and centre! Quite scary!!
Our hotel was lovely and in a realy good position to the main areas of Bangkok. The first nite we went for a meal on the water front which was gorgeous. Looking at the menu (which i couldnt understand) I realised i might starve in this country as i dont like hardley any of the food :-(
One of the main dishes was Chicken Sausages. Its Chicken.... that looks like a sausage!!!! Confused the hell outta me and was not good!! Why would a chicken want to mascarade as a sausage!!???? Why????
I settled on Pork skewwers which was pork on a sitck and was actually quite nice (I miss bacon already). Mark decided to show us alll how brave he was by eating some hot chillies and we watched him glow bright red and sweat for the next 5 mins! Funny!! lol!
I attempted to try a few dishes of Thai food however resigned to the fact that Maccy Ds would be my best friend for the next 4 days! :-)
Suffering from a bit of Jetlag i was really tired but completely wide awake and did not sleep until around 4am. Boo Jetlag sucks!!
The next day we went to some Temples in Bangkok. The Temples were great and there was some real Monks walking around which facinatled me ( i took some pictures of them, he he). The main attraction in the temple was the HUGE gold Buda- It is the biggest buda i have ever seen!! (Not that ive seen many)
I learnt alot about Buddism which was interesting (still not sure on how i feel about it and dont think i fully understand it) but was definately interesting!
After dragging happy snapping Mark away from the photo opportunitys (which was every single thing for Mark) we showed our respects and i made a wish and got a message back which Anns Mom translated for me.
It said something along the lines of
"You will have a successful adventure but dont be too eager to trust... and dont trust people who are not straight forward or who appear to have something to hide"
Hmmm.. interesting. ill keep that in mind!!
(Im sure there was much more writing on that wish card, but i think Annes mom skipped over the other parts im guessing it was bad so probably a good job!) lol!
On Saturday it was the highlight of my trip and the thing i wanted to do most in Thailand.....ELEPHANT RIDING!!!!
We went to the elephant sanctary which looks after poorly or older elephants and I was so excited even just driving up the entrance i nearly hyperventalated!!! There was loads of elephants there (and a slightly sedated tiger- not sure what they gave him but he was out of it). Mark and Anne took the first elephant, Paddy on the second and me taking up the rear! lol
My elephant (who i called Penelope- the elephant) was a bit naughty and kept trying to walk over the water edge but i didnt mind cos i was having too much fun!
Mark was allowed to climb onto his elephants head and he drove the elephant to the end. (Do u drive elephants... not sure if thats the right word). Marks elephant guide got snap happy and took millions of photos of Mark and Anne. (It was like an OK photo shoot, lol!!) While Paddys elephant was off on a wander in front of us all!
At the end of the ride i thanked Penelope and gave her some bananas. There was another elephant at the end who wrapped his trunk around us and picked us up of the ground!! So funnyyy!!!! (see pics)
After another few temple visits we headed back to hotel spotting a few ladies of the night on the way and out for a lovely dinner! :-) Let me just say that the 'ladies on the night' were so blatant and not at all subtle... one was even in the lift of our hotel and still had the money in her hand!!! Shockin!!!!
On the last day, we went shopping and this is where i saw my first LADY BOY!!!! YAYYYYY!!! After 4 days of looking at women..... thinking it might be a lady boy and looking to Paddy and Mark for confirmation... then them telling me 'No Kate, thats a women again!'........ I was losing all hope of ever seeing one. Then like buses... two came along at the same time!!! lol!
I thought i would not be able to tell if it was a lady boy or not but the two i saw were rubbish and completely looked like guys! Boo!!!
At least i got the see them! Tick on my checklist!! :-)
These were the highlights of the trip to Bangkok.... short but sweet and defo worth the visit!!
Next Stop..... SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!
