2nd flight over and i finally arrive in Sydney at 7am!! YAY!!
I was expecting to be hurled into a room by security at the airport like you see on TV, but i went through very quickly and breathed a sigh of relief!
My first mission (should i chose to accept it) was to find a bus to get to my first hotel. This is where my adventure begins and being as organised and prepared as i i am........I realised i had forgot to get any aussie dollars! Not a good start! I located a cash point which gave me a $50 notes (bout 38 Pounds ) and thought the bus driver mite not accept this much money for a $4.50 bus ticket so now i had to find a shop to get change! Grrrr!! Maybe i should have thought bout this before i left england! :-)
Walking through the airport (looking for a shop) i notice a good looking guy with a placard that said ' OZ INTRO'. I was obviously lookin at the placard and not the guy! lol! ;-) OZ INTRO was the name of the tour group i was going to be joining in a few days so i smiled towards the man and suprisingly he offered to drop me to my hotel free of charge!! Lovin the aussies already! :-)
I stayed at a hotel for the first two nights in Coggee Beach (courtsey of my parents -thanks Mum and dad) . I was so happy when i arrived as it across the road from the beach and was quiet and quaint hotel perfect to recover from Jetlag. I dropped my stuff off and went for a wonder. Coggee Beach was beautiful. It was very small with one main shopping street which lead down to the beach. It reminded me alot of Aberstytwyth but much cleaner and much hotter! I spend the first two days here chilling on the beach and wondering the shops.
After the second day it was time to move onto the hotel in the red light districe know as KINGS CROSS! I was very, very nervous about stopping in Kings Cross as i have heard and read so much negative stuff about it.... the worst being the pimps and drug dealers on the streets all nite and day. Not what i call a holiday destination!!
I left Dive hotel and put my backpack on for the first time and OMG!!!! It was sooo heavy!!! It was sooo heavy that i have carpet burns on my arms from lifting it up and everytime i took a step my legs physically shook!! :-( Who ever came up with the idea of carrying all your belongin on your back should be shot!!
Two buses later and lots of embarrasing near falls off the bus with my backpack and i finally arrived in Kings Cross. I was pleasently suprised by the hotels exterior as it looked like a nice B&B and even more impressive, i hadnt spotted and pimps or drug dealers yet! :-)
I was quite pleased when the receptionist told me i was in a quiet room as the hotel was located direct on the main road know as 'Sin strip'. I was however not impressed that the room was on the 4th floor and the lift stopped at the 3rd floor. Lugging my HUGE backpack up the last set of stairs i realised that there was no one else on the 4th floor but me. Hmmm! I then thought back to the receptionist words about my room being quiet and thoughts flooded my mind of being murdered in a room where no one could here me scream!!
I had a wonder round Kings Cross passing bars with names like 'Pleasure Chest' and 'Porkys Nite Spot' (nice), i had a quick pint and bite to eat and went back to my room.
Luckily, i survived the nite and actually slept really well. This was after i jammed toilet paper in the window frame to stop it banging. I had breakfast and headed back towards Coggee to check into my home for the next 10 days 'Surfside Backpackers hostel'.
