Brisbane was only just over an hour away from Surfers Paradise so the journey on the grey hound was quick and stress free. Ive been pleasently suprised with the places weve seen so far and hoped Brisbane would be just as good. We arrived at Roma Transit Centre, Brisbane, around 2pm. There was no free pick up for this hostel however, as it was so highly reccomended and on our map seemed pretty close to the transit centre, we decided to stay there anyway and just walk to the hostel. (Bear in mind this is the first time we have all had to walked more than a few metres with our backpacks on). So, with a travel guide in our hand we began walking to our hostel helping each other along the way, however it was less than a few minutes and we soon realised how nakering it was to carry your life on ur back even if the walk was less than a mile. Sweaty and shaky we seemed to be walking for miles passing many perfectly fine looking hostels until we finally came across our hostel BASE. We were so happy to get there we dumped all our bags in a corner and attempted to check in so we could relax from tiring walk (yeah i know... im a drama queen:-)
After listening and watching the campest, most hyperactive and possibly most annoying man ive ever met sing and dance himself stupid while offending pretty much everyone in the cue, we finally got checked in 2 HOURS!!! after initally arriving at the hostel!!! WORST SERVICE EVER!! At this point we were all soooo bored and fed up we just wanted to get to our room and chill out.......however this was not going to be our lucky day!! On arriving in the room we were horrified to find all the matresses off the beds and the biggest cans of cockroach spray ive ever seen! This was the final straw for us and even though we had no where else to stay that nite we complained to management getting a full refund and leaving that s*** hole never to return!!
The next few hours were spent phoning hostels to try and get checked in somewhere else and luckily we got into a hostel called Brisbane Backpackers, none of us had never heard of this hostel and had no idea where it was however we took a chance and made our way there ( by taxi of course!!) The hostel was out of the centre of town in an area called West end...... which sounds really nice but turned out to be an area full of crack heads who shouted abuse as you walked past in the street. Luckily the hostel itself was actually awesome even if there was a half way house across the road. ekkk!!!!
The aim for Brisbane was to get some work to boost our funds up ready for the rest of the east coast, however this didnt quite go to plan. In our defence, we did spend one day handing out CV's and another applying for jobs online, but we got fed up of this and decided to forget the job search and just enjoy ourselves instead! So the rest of the time in Brisbane was spent playing drinking games including the famous Tappy tappy, flip flop game and beer pong... of which gemma and jill won us lots of free jugs by beating the canadians!!! Well done ladies!! Unfortunatly as we only stayed a few days we didnt end up doing many touristy things in Brisbane, the only thing we did do was visit the lagoon which was beautiful and id like to go back there if i ever get the chance to see a few more of the sights. We ended our time in Brisbane by takin a trip to 'The Valley'..... Brisbanes equililant of Broad Street with the other guys from Ozintro who arrived the day before we left. OMG, if u thought Brum was rough u would be shocked to see this place of a nite time! Police, Fights, and constant drama!!We settled on a wat seemed a fun pub based on the 90's tunes coming out that door and all i remember is watchin another extremely camp guy dancin himself silly trying to impress Maria, then maria getting lost in the wrong beer garden and trying to direct her back to the right beer garden over the phone step by step! Very funny! We had a fun time, but it was soo expensive for drinks $8.00 a drink!!!! I didnt drink much good job as we left for Noosa the next morning... Never good travelling with a bad hangova! Ask Ashleigh..!! LOL!:-P
I did learn something that night tho...... NEVER EVA use the public toilets in The Valley.......... Me, Jill and Maria learnt this fact the hard way!!! ewwwwwww!!!! :-(
