Steve's Mini Adventure!
Arriving on an overnight bus form Bangkok, we checked into a guesthouse my bro reccomended. Was really good value, stayed with 2 lads I met on the bus earlier. About 2 or 3 quid each a night! Spent the day looking round Chiang Mai, I really liked it here. Its still lively but without the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, and I needed to get out of there! We booked a jungle treck the next day, did a bit of shopping and went to some temples etc. That night went to the biggest religious festival of the year in Chiang Mai. Was a great experience, we joined in the festivities, following the monks around the temple 3 times with flowers and incense, dropping hot wax on my hands as I went, trying not to scream!! Then went off to Thai Boxing, this was awesome fun, proceeded to get pretty hammered with 2 Danish lads. The others went back but we went to some bars after, had a lock in with them and the Thai Barman, had an awesome night just nailing Whiskey! Less than 2 hrs sleep and we were heading into the jungle, I was in worlds of trouble! Was baking hot and we had a hard day ahead! The next 4 hrs were painful to say the least, sweating pure whiskey! However it was all worth it when we got there. Stayed in the tribal village of Laho, the views and peole were fantastic. Had great fun playing with the local children, watching the sunset and having a few beers with our group. Amazing day. More of the same the next day, easier trecking and a few waterfalls along the way. Quite a heavy night that night! Last day was the action day! Last bit of treck, then elephant riding! Probably the most amazing thing ive ever done! Young Borris! Followed up with White Water Rafting, brilliant fun! I have 2 photos i bought after but couldnt take any due to the obvious water probs! Then bamboo rafting where we sank! And eventually back home. very tired but the best few days of my life! Probably shouldve stayed further north for longer, its a brilliant place to be.
