Steve's Mini Adventure!
Apologies first for how long this has taken!! Its been manic and it takes a while to sort out! Also apologies for so many photos, you know i get over excited! Anyway, arrived in Bangkok after a good flight but they left my luggage in Dubai!! Not a good start! Anyway I had everything i needed so was ok. Met Rob and Jen and Headed down Khao San Road (tourist street) The place was Mental! Felt ok so we got battered in a few bars. Spent the next day getting lost for hours trying to find Rob and Jens Hotel! Bangkok is without doubt the craziest place Ive ever seen! Its like nothing else, constantly being hassled for everything, espeially Tuk-Tuk (open air taxi), combined with the unbearable Humidity its hard work even going for a beer! Looked round Siam Square and then rode the boat up to Tha Thien to one of hundreds of temples! Wat (temple) Pho is one of the more famous, as u can see the reclining Buddha is HUGE, 46 meters long and 15 high!!! Got taken down some back ally and into a Beckenham Monks House!! Bit dodgy but we sat with him and got a holy blessing, throwing water and chanting etc! Was interesting to say the least! Had a wander through the backstreets on my own, the place is so big, you get lost in a second! The place is horrible in somre respects yet at the same time endearing! Its an awesome place...for a few days! Went out that night, some great food, 30f us ate loads for about 7 quid! After Rob and Jen went back i kept drinking and met some Brits. Nice people, it got very messy! Ended up in some Thai Club in the middle of nowhere untill 7am! Enough said! Was boiling the next day, waiting at the Grand Palace just sweating pure whiskey, ive never felt so bad! We couldnt go in cos the King was in doing a blessing, was the start of their biggest religious holiday. Watched the King drive out with his huge entourage, im not sure if the Thais appreciated me being so close, got some funny looks! The Thai people love their king, he's more like a god so security is really tight. Chilled out by the river and went through one of the thousands of local markets, they're amazing! Eventually getting the overnight, 10hr bus trip north to Chang Mai. Bangkok....horrible, dirty, annoying, buzzing, entertaining, amazing!! Excellent time, nice to get away!
