This is our longest cruise - 50 days. Friends ask - what do you do for 50 days. Nearly 30 of those days involve a port of call. We will usually go ashore and explore the town or take a tour. Port presentations the day or 2 prior help orient us, along with maps and highlights available either on board or on shore.
The days at sea can be surprisingly full. We usually have early coffee in the room with breakfast at around 9:00. Phyllis will the attend a cooking show and the gym in the morning. Lorne will attend a port or tour presentation. Casual buffet lunch around 1:00 in the Lido restaurant or by the pool. Afternoon is taken with walks on deck, presentations, TV, reading, etc. Happy hour around 4:30 getting ready for dinner. We eat early in the main dining room. (Sounds like eating is a big part of a cruise, and that is true. Have to watch the diet although it is tough.) Food is excellent. Evenings generally involve some time in a lounge with entertainment. Our favorite is the Explorers Lounge with a two piece (violin and piano) group from the Philippines playing light classical music. At 8:00pm we attend the evening show featuring different performances each evening (e.g the ships singers and dancers; comedians, musicians, singers with a five piece band serving as back-up when required). Quality mostly quite good. Nightcap in the room or in a lounge and to bed early. We are sleeping well.
TV in the room features 5 live TV stations (news and sports channels) and movies. We also have purchased an internet package (about $8 per day which gives us unlimited access). Connection is good but at certain times (8-10am) it can be busy. Nevertheless, it gets better every year. We also read a lot We are never bored.
