Weather perfect today so set off at 10am for our big walking day.
First stop the Jewish Quarter where we took ourselves around the self guided Jewish Heritage trail - area being rejuvenated with bars and cafes in old run down buildings amongst incredibly historic sites - synagogs and cemeteries etc
Then we walked across the river bridge the 30000 Jews were marched across by the Germans when they moved them out of Kazimierz into a Jewish ghetto which had previously housed only 10000 polish people. Over there we toured Schindlers Factory Museum (a must see) walked around the old ghetto area and headed a bit further to the Plastow Concentration camp site which is vacant land now because when they were driven out of Krakow the Germans totally destroyed it to hide the evidence. A few memorials and SS officers houses remain - this was the camp they used before Auschwitz.
Got ourselves lost walking back into the old town and a taxi saved the day.
Late lunch and then tour of the Rynek Underground which is an excavated section of the market square under the current one
Dinner tonight at Padre the no.1 restaurant in Krakow on trip advisor - less than half Adelaide prices and food, service, decor etc high quality and more Mediterranean than Polish. Met an interesting Cornish couple now living in Cyprus and yes we got an invite!
Fabulous day - we walked for 5 hours and learnt heaps about the atrocities the Germans unleashed on the Jews
