Something to be said for going to sleep at night and waking in the morning with the water of the Grand Canal lapping under the open window. Lazy morning on the deck watching daily life in Venice.
Late morning walked to Rialto bridge and then followed a self guided foodie walk through the F&V and fish markets and down little side streets of food shops. Ended up doing a round trip and crossed back over the grand canal at Academia and had a pretty average salad for lunch in a square near our apartment. Food and drink prices in Venice have come as a bit of a shock after Eastern Europe where everything was so cheap - here prices are Adelaide plus!
The fun of Venice is "getting lost" in the maze of streets and then we use technology to find our way. Have got the best 2 iPad apps ever which once loaded while online, operate offline as maps, direction finders and info finders for walks, restaurants, bars, banks etc etc. Haven't used a paper map in Venice at all and did so very rarely in the other places we have been
