Since arriving in New Zealand there has been a Tsunami in Samoa, an earthquake in Indonesia and the heaviest snowfall in NZ for 25 years.
After the extreme heat of Hawaii we are in shock, it is freezing here, and has rained A LOT. Things should be looking up for next week, fingers crossed.
We spent our first couple of nights with relatives in Auckland, it was very nice to be in a homely environment again. And the extended family came round for a party.
After getting our comedy car (the smallest one they had!) we headed north up to the Bay of Islands where the weather was milder and the rain stopped for us to get a boat tour around the bay and see dolphins. We were lucky that we saw a pod of dolphins straight away and then more further out. However both pods had babies with them which meant that we couldn't swim with them on this occasion.
We're now heading south and are currently in Rotorua, which has a very eggy smell which we haven't adjusted to yet. This is due to the amount of sulphur which causes the natural phenomenon and geysers, which wer're going to see tomorrow. We're not sure how long we're going to stay here as the road south has been closed due to heavy snowfall so we need to keep an eye on it.
We head to Wellington for the ferry to the South Island on Saturday, weather permitting.
