Hello from the South Island of New Zealand. We got the ferry across from Wellington on Saturday. Haven't got much to say about Wellington really - the rain was coming down sideways and we were FREEZING! However, it did encourage us to find more cultural exploits - we spent the day in the New Zealand museum to get out of the weather.
The crossing over from North to South Island was extremely choppy, until we reached the Marlborough Sounds where the weather was clearer and views spectacular.
We're now in Kaikoura, which we both agree is our favourite place so far, where the snow-capped mountains meets the sea, full of dolphins, seals and whales (and Craig's breakfast!)
Since we've reached the South Island the weather has improved considerably, so the t-shirts and shorts have replaced the thermal tops and rain-jackets of the North island. We're slowly getting used to backpacker hostels, slthough we've cheated a few times and upgraded to en-suite studio rooms to get away from the student-types. In the last hostel Jude was most put-out by being woken up several times by a really loud, Aussie Rolf Harris lookalike.
