Just image a small quiet village in between a large hill and a beautiful beach... that is Strandhill. Kevin, Traci, and I stayed with Kevin's friend for about 5 nights in this quaint little village. We were walking distance from the beach, so Traci and I decided to go for a run on the sand. The tides changes so dramatically and so fast that we found ourselves at some point climbing up the rocks to keep from getting wet. And even though it was cold and windy at the beach, we still saw other people going for a walk down by the water. On a good day, you can find perfectly good surf and see the locals running down to the beach in their wetsuites with their surfboards under their arms. It was awesome because it made me feel at home. The people we stayed with own a seaweed bath and massage place overlooking the beach. When Traci and I finished our run, they invited us to take a seaweed bath. It was the most relaxing and enjoyable experience!
Strandhill is just outside of Sligo. This town is full of history and we were able to see a lot of it. My favorite spot was the Holy Well. It's the setting of an outside church where the persecuted Christians would sneek off and have mass. It was so pretty and was really a neat experience.
In this small village, there are 5 pubs! There's only 1 market and 1 pharmacy, but don't worry, they have 5 pubs to choose from! We hung out in 3 of them and they were all unique in there own way and brought different kinds of people. The Strand was my favorite because it had a lot of history to it and they had live music there. Beer was a little more expensive than I was hoping for, but the extra buck was worth it for a true Irish Guiness! I made a point to have at least one more the night before I left Ireland.
