Bonjour from Paris!
The time has come for our time in Europe after a great 2 months in the UK. After 5 days in Paris we have both fallen in love with the city, in a way you could never feel for a woman. Because let's face it, women don't have French bakeries or a massive tower. The only thing that is shared between a woman and Paris is that all you need to get there is a large sum of money.
Our time in Paris was littered with the best meals we have ever had. Whether it was panini's, bagguettes with Brie and ham, croissants or noodle soup from our favoured noodle bar, our tastebuds were treated to what only can be described as food paradise. To put that into context, we completely forgot about French girls because of the food. However I did manage to notice that they tend to be the best looking specimens I have encountered thus far in my life.
However we did not get the chance to meet many, because our self enforced drinking ban due to our developing waistline prevented us from hitting the town.
The Eiffel tower was everything we expected it to be and more, and we climbed it once as well as getting the lift on a separate night. The tower is an amazing monument and has even been described by some as "LukeCourse-esque". Personally I think this is a little over the top because only 3.4 million girls experience the tower a year.
One of the highlights of Paris for us was watching the World Cup final at the Fifa Fan Fest in Trocadero with 20,000 others. We both had huge flags to wear (Dutch for Mat and Spanish for Luke) which ensured we fitted right in. The crowd was like nothing we have ever experienced, with flares and fireworks going off everywhere. It go so out of hand at one stage that riot police were called in. One Frenchman was tasered, while the whole crowd was pepper sprayed, which was an experience we would rather forget. We were sneezing and had a wierd taste in our mouths.
We were also lucky enough to see the Mona Lisa firsthand at the Louvre. It was quite humbling to see this great attraction, which helped us understand how people must feel when they meet us.
Our hotel was also a great asset for us. It was situated perfectly next door to a French bakery and a metro station. We had a balcony overlooking our street which was great for the hot nights, and stealing wireless.
Whilst we were in Paris, there was actually a heatwave, with some days up to 35C with high humidity. To deal with the heat we had regular showers and DID NOT sponge each other down.
Today, much to our dismay, we are leaving Paris (she cheated on us with Rome) and are heading to Bruges in Belgium.
