Charlie and I finally arrived in South Korea yesterday. The flight was great. Lots more leg room in the cheap seats than BA! We got a bus from the airport to Gumi where we were met by another teacher from the school where we will be working. The town we live in is called Waegwan and is about 20 minutes drive from Gumi. We arrived at our apartment at about 10 pm. It is a cool place; other English teachers have lived here before so we have been left some useful things like an enormous fridge, earl grey tea and desiccated coconut!
Today was our first official day in Korea and we started it by sleeping in as silly little me set the alarm but didn't change the alarm clock to Korean time! Luckily we woke up before our boss arrived to take us for lunch at Midday. We had our first taste of Korean food which was very nice, lots of meat cooked on a grill in the middle of the table, char bar style but a little more refined, plus the famous Gimchi which I must say wasn't my favourite part of the meal. After lunch we went to visit the school which is really modern and looks like it has a really good working environment, lots of resources and small classes of up to 8 kids. We start tomorrow at 2pm!
This afternoon we had a look around and have started to change the apartment to how we would like it. It will be a great place for parties eventually as long as the neighbours don't mind too much. We also went to the supermarket which was fun! Most things have pictures on them but I did almost order 6 kg of tangerines....!
Anyway, I must go to bed as it is late and I need to acclimatise myself to the new time zone.
Keep in touch, mobile doesn't work out here so I'll let you know new number as soon as I know it
Take care
