Well last time i updated, I still had Franz josef, Wanaka and Queenstown to update you all on!!!
Soooooo, Franz Josef..... what can I say but AMAZING!!! We managed to catch up with the buses that we had left earlier on so all of the clan we had met were there which was pretty ace. But the highlights really were the heli hike (helicopter to the top of the glacier and a two hour trek). One of the most beautiful places we have seen! And Despite not liking flying, the helicopter was crazy!!!
So From there, it was obviously nap time, before we went on another walk to a tunnel (which was literally pitch black (to which we took a tiny stupid torch that didnt even work) so we just trudged through teh freezing cold water and hoped for the best! (we obviously survived!)
Our second day we decided a lie in was much needed and the guys we had pretty much travelled from Aukland with were leaving Sad times :-( Though once we were up, we decided to walk to the bottom of the glacier for another walk. Half way there though we decided we actually couldnt be bothere so we hitch hiked and a Calafornian couple kindly picked us up! :-D We did manage the hours walk and back from there though! We then treated ourselves with an afternoon in the hot pools which ranged from 36degrees to 38! Twas just what us kernow girlies needed by this point!
It was time to leave FJ and join a new bus (one that to be honest, wasnt very exciting!) We FInnaly arrived in Wanaka (pronounce carefully Vicky!!!) Where we chilled by the mountains and again, just a breathtaking sight you cant really describe! Here we got to share our dorm with 3 VERY stinky people!!! (vicky kindly told them this! Yes girls it was NOT me who opened my mouth for a change hehe)
Another early start and we made our way to Queenstown... aka party town! We again finnaly caught up with all the others that we had met off the 4 other buses and it was time to let our hair down! (only for 4days!!!) :-P
SO yup, we decided we couldnt party for another 10 days so we hired a car! :-S We took a day trip to Glenorchy in the p****** down rain and on our way, felt sorry for a French Canadian hitchiker so we picked him up after he had been treking for many days!! (just so you all know, NZ is supposed to be the safest place to hitchhike ;-P) So he told us his little story and we dropped him off at the bottom of a mountain at his van (not without getting my cup of tea mind!!) We decided we couldnt drive all that way and not go for a walk, so with a bagg over my head, vic in her bright pink mac and Katie in her white flip flops... we went for our own little trek (for an hour!) We ignored the look swe got from from hardcore hehe We ended the day with hot soup, wedges and hot chocs! PERFECT! (other than the start of my tonsils being the size of OZ!)
so before leaving the next day towards, We actually had no idea where we were going! We just jumped in to Bert (yes we named the car Bert) and drove... to Ashburton. This was only really a stop over but it had a bath and TV and WOOOOO!!!!! Further to my grottiness, I spent most of the time asleep and drugged up!
We then left for Kaikoura to go Whale Watching! (a bit of a rush as Katie and Lousie changed their Fiji flight but we still managed it!!) SO we arrived for Whale watching (I was still drugged to the eye balls!) and we jumped on the boat.. It didnt take long before we were watching sperm whales on the surface of the water! (it was just flipping unfortunate that 2 seconds before getting off the boat I was ill!!! We blame Vic for saying I managed to go the whole time without throwing up!!) haha
A slap up meal later (I could just about manage this first meal in days!!) We decided to have an early night, seeing as the shops and pubs were dead as a dodo!
SOOO Sunday we headed back to Christchurch (at the rate of knotts around the stupidly bendy roads) to drop Katie and Lousie off for their flight. We then headed on to Akaroua, a lovely little fishing village about an hour from Christchurch. This was only after seeing the slight devestation of last years earthquake (We did take a few pics).
So the drive..... well lets just say it was HELL!!! Car sickness is not my thing, and apparently stopping on bends is not vics!! I shall say no more just use the imagination haha. We finally arrived in Akoroua and Vic decided to reverse in to one of the motels telephone post so we made a swift exit!! haha We managed to find a lovely friendly family run backpackers where I was able to konk out and Vic explored the town. The rest was much needed and the following day (our last pretty much) the sun was shining... Vic managed a run (YES denies she went running :-O) And we decided that another chill out day and relax was much deserved.
A not so bad journey back to Christchurch the next day felt pretty eery! I just kept thinking another Earthquake was going to happen. But we survived! And the city was deserted. IT was a right eye opener and made us both realise how good our lives really are!
Sad times and we said farewell to NZ at 2.30am on the 29th Feb!!! Though we did manage to arrive in Aus, find a hostel and get a room, all before 9am!!! :-D
Furtehr updates of the Aus adventures will be posted soonos!!!!
