The flight was short and sweet just like the others we have had here is south east asia. Although you wont gues who we flew with.. put it this way.. we never EVER thought we would have to step foot on a Jetstar plane again! not fair eh??
Checked into our hotel and an hour later we were getting on another cyclo for a tour of the city! God, Lisa nearly died last time...will we survive.. haha... actually this tour was so much better even though the traffic was worse than Hanoi the cyclos were designed slightly different so you were reclined a little and it made you feel a lot safer! well as safe as you can with there being 4 million motorbikes in Ho Chi Minh City. Our Cyclo tour stopped at the Reunification Palce, Notre Dame Cahedral, Opera House, cantral post office and City Hall. All in All a good tour and finshed up by leaving our group to meet Ang and Rich at De Tham (backpacker central). We had dinner and spent the evening wandering around checking out the bars for the next night when Will and Zack were meeting us! Kiwi reunion!
It was a very early start to take our trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels..these tunnels are part of a much larger network that underlie much of the country. The Cu Chi tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the vietnam war, and were the National Front for the liberation of South Vietnam's base of operations. They are absolutley tiny as you can see from the pictures! and they have been widened to let westerners crawl through.. It was an amazing experience looking around and learning about how they survived and used U.S bombs to fight back! Lisa also shot an AK47 at the shooting range with 4 other girls...It was a very strange feeling and felt a bit shakey for a few minutes after.. you cannot imagine having to do that continuously! Spent the afternoon at the markets and having a manicure! nice treat considering it cost 2 pounds each! and got ready for the evening.
Will and Zack brought their mate Gary to meet us at our hotel and we made our way to see Ang and Rich at Eden Bar. It was great being back together again... its just so comfortable being with people that you really çlick'with. 5 rum and cokes later we decided we should actually have some dinner... had a cheap and cheerful meal at a street cafe and headed for the fresh beer again.. not as nice as Hoi An but still as cheap! The rest of the night was spent in 2 other bars finishing back at Eden for way too many more rum and cokes! Got to bed around 3.30am and our alarm woke us up at 6.30am to get the bus to Phnom Penh...
Such a fantastic evening and cant wait to see everyone again for a reunion in August ... Nottingham here we come!
