What a day! Today we saw the sunrise in Phnom Penh and the sunset in Siem Reap. We got up at 4.45am to walk down to Mekong river and watch the sunrise. At first we were worried because it was a bit cloudy but after about half an hour waiting, we realised it was well worth our wait! The view was stunning and we got some great pics. At 8.00am we got on the bus to head for Siem Reap. We were warned that the roads were bumpy, but nothing had prepared us for this! We literally came out of our seats on more than one occasion! After three hours, we stopped for a toilet break at spider village... And yes, the clue's in the name. Si and a few others tried deep fried spider, which he described as "like the crispy chilli beef that we have from the Chinese". I'm not impressed with that comment though because I love that beef and now I'll think of spider when I eat it! We carried on on our journey and stopped again after another couple of hours at the Cambodian version of Little Chef. This was so bad, that I didn't order anything! So it must be bad if I'm willing to go hungry! Si ordered fried rice and pork, but when it arrived he didn't even try the pork, and picked it all out! He said the rice tasted of nothing too... When we got back on the bus, our tour guide said the second half wouldn't be as bumpy, but he lied. It was just as bad! We got to the hotel around 4.00pm, which is a fantastic hotel! Its ran by the same people as yesterday's restaurant so we're doing our bit for charity by just being here! We had a complimentary drink at the rooftop bar and headed out to the Angkor Wat temples to watch the sunset. It was surprisingly busy, but Si managed to get a good spot for some great pics. I, however, got about three quarters of the way up, and headed back down the second the sun had gone down, it was so scary up there! Back at the hotel, we sorted some washing out and took it to the local laundry service. Whilst there, we also got some stuff for one of my nasty mosquito bites. That's right, we got our laundry done, and treatment for my bite at the same place, the laundrette is also a pharmacy! We went for dinner at a restaurant on Pub Street, where there was Apsara dancing whilst we were eating. The dancing was good, the food was incredible! Si had local food, while I had western food, and both were amazing! The service however, was rubbish, and Jeremy didn't get any food at all. We headed back for an early night, its New Years Eve tomorrow! We want to be fresh for an awesome night!
