Yesterday, before our massive drive to Airlie Beach, we took the time out to go visit Australia Zoo, Steve and Terri Irwin's zoo that they've built up from next to nothing. It was a lot of fun! We got to watch the animal show in the famous 'Crocoseum', which was fun, but with a surprising environmental thrown in. We also got to go into the wallaby and kangaroo enclosure, where we could stroke all the sleeping animals (and also where we saw Terri Irwin, and her youngest son Rob!). The highlight though, more than seeing the Tasmanian Devil and the camels has to being given the chance to hold a koala. Handling animals is also a dodgy business, as they are never usually what you imagined. A koala however can only surpass any expectations: they are warm, cute (despite having goat eyes), and have really soft fur. She also really enjoyed burrowing into my fleece! I've got a pic that's being mailed home, and I can't wait to see what it looks like, as I was grinning from ear-to-ear!
Hopefully will be able to update soon, as will be off to Airlie Beach, where we're going on sea catamaran, but hopefully with less puking than the last time I went on one!
