Hello from Mission Beach!
Today, a few of us took a water taxi over to nearby Dunk Island, which has to be the posher, more exclusive version of Moreton (complete with airstrip for those private jets!)
It has a large rainforest, which we spent the morning hiking through to get to the island's highest point. The rainforest was unbelievably lush and green. It's a pity we didn't see more of the animals on offer, but they suffered a cyclone several years ago, and are still recovering the top canopy. We did hear birds everywhere though, including a full on scrap between two cockatoos and a sea eagle. We don't know who won, but I don't fancy the eagle's chances: those cockatoos looked vicious!
Then, after a meal of fresh fish and chips, we also hired a kayak and took them out to sea, which was still clear to the bottom 100ft out. One of the other trekkers managed to see half a dozen turtles, dipping their heads up to take a breather. She must have had the knack however, as no-one else could see them. Either that, or she was making it up!
We just got back around an hour ago, but I'm exhausted, working out my legs on the hike, and my arms in the kayak! We're onto Cairns next, which is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef!
