We left Yulara travelling with the Rentschs around 10.30am, stopped off at Curtain Springs to re-fuel then on to our roadside camp 50km East of Kings Canyon.
We all set up camp & collected some firewood, Charlie went off & built a magnificent castle out of rocks while we went over & spoke to some Canadian backpackers.
The Canadian girl Tess was a hairdresser & offered to cut the kids hair for $10 each, Tommy, Mitch, Makayla, & Flick got haircuts, not often you get your hair cut in the middle of nowhere!
In the meantime Mick was hovering over the fire, for some reason he couldn't wait to light it!!!
We had our evening meal and sat around the fire but then we ran out of wood because SOMEONE ??? lit the fire too early. Luckily I remembered by emergency firewood supply in a box at the front of the van.
I pulled out my guitar which I hadn't played for a couple of decades and Jordan the Canadian brought his guitar and we had a bit of a jam session sitting around the fire. It was great fun.
We headed off early the next morning for Kings Canyon. On the day we saw some wild camels and brumbies. When we arrived at the Canyon we decided to do the Canyon Rim Walk which took about 2.5 hours while Mick, Mandy and the kids did the Canyon floor walk which is safer and easier for younger kids.
We had a late lunch and headed off to our next roadside stop "Salt Creek" 100 odd kilometres back towards Erldunda. When we arrived Mick and Mandy had set up camp in a great spot and Mick had collected lots of firewood. There was a resident young dingo there. He was very curious and probably hungry. He came right over to our campsite. It was the first dingo we had seen.
We had pizza for tea cooked in our weber BBQ and Mandy and the kids made some pretty awesome cupcakes for dessert.
Next morning, we said goodbye to Mick, Mandy, Makayla, Flick and Charlie. It was sad to see them go as we had such a great time together. They were heading south into the cold weather and we were heading north into the hot weather. Our adventure had only really just begun and theirs was drawing to an end.
See you later in the year guys!
