Our last day in Cinque Terre was supposed to be beaches and exploring the cities. Being the first day it rained on our trip, we decided wine tasting was a better option than the beach (personally, I think this was a fair trade). The rain in Cinque Terre is not like that in Vancouver at all. When it rains it pours, forcing us to seek out cover and wait for the break in the rain (usually only a few minutes each time).
After walking through the shops of Riomaggiore (and buying a few souvenirs) we decided to walk along the Via dell'Amour again. This time was less crowded (because of the weather) and the ocean was much more active, so Robyn and I walked down to the rocks, taking photos of the waves and splashes. Along the walk, I had my first foccacia of the trip Robyn had her first meringue. Both were delicious.
We then hopped on the train and headed to Monterosso, hoping to find the "il Gigante". What we failed to realize is that it wasn't on the edge of the city, but rather an hour hike out. Disappointed we couldn't make it there in time we settled for photos of the beach & waves, and a calzone & pizza on a patio.
After a late lunch we hopped back on the train, heading to our wine tasting in Riomaggiore. As the trains run so infrequently, we were stuffed on there like sardines.
Our wine tasting was lots of fun, 4 glasses of wine each on a terrace right by the sea, with my best friends :)
Our dinner today was a cone of fried fish (Robyn & I had a lady and the tramp moment with the squid, but couldn't figure out who was the lady and who was the tramp). We then had fresh strawberries, oranges and a bottle of wine on our terrace (we needed cups and there was some confusion at the store, I may have stolen an entire bag of cups??).
Unfortunately Teree was not able to find the "il Gigante and Robyn was not able to swim in the ocean (she would have been swept out to see), so I guess we'll just have to come back sometime.
One thing we've learned in Cinque Terre, the trains are not reliable, running infrequently and never on time.
Dialogue of the day: Robyn and Teree wanted to go on a hike. Carla asked directions. She came back and said "ok, we can get there, just not legally...."
Tomorrow we head to the Amalfi Coast :)
