Today is the 3rd day of my remarkable journey across the Roman lands. By count I have had 15 gelato cones. Tiramisu (interesting), Caffatoo, Pistachio (quite interesting), Baccio, Crema, Yogurt, and Caffe.
The great thing about Italian cities is most are situated on a hill and therefore it is very very had to get lost. Its either up or down, and if you know relatively two of the most known Piazzolos then you're good. The downside to this splendid system is that the feeble legs of a violinist cannot the stress created from having to travel up and down the hills. And if you forget a pencil for your class its down the hill. However the Italians are a very balanced people, and to counter this stress they have put fountains of running water across the city. This includes, Spoleto, Sienna, Roma, and many other cities in my current region of Umbria. You can wet your face, fill up a waterbottle, wash your hands, anything as long as you don't put anything in the fountains.
A cultural substance that I find highly attractive is the Italian Siesta which unlike a siesta is a time to quite down and relax. Most local stores close down from 1:00 - 3:00 and enjoy a long break. My status of relationships has also had an interesting turn. I am now going for the married Elajnora, one of the watiers at the clittunno. It is justified because unlike a marriage we just have a waiter-thing which if any of you know is very different. The goal is to ask her a question every meal about her, in Italian, each question becoming more complex each meal until the last day I ask her, Mi posso e Spagetthi, which ruffly translates into, can I have more spaghetti, it is a plan in progress…
I believe that is all, Ciao
Our first day of classes was today: So far my schedule is as follows:
8-9: Breakfast
9-10: Practice
10-11: Performance Class (Which is a class were you learn different techniques to help improve your performance on stage, so that hopefully you can man performance performances) we practice Tai Chi for focus, Yoga for strength and balance, and some games for awareness.
11-12: Arts and Ideas (Which has a lot of potential but unfortunately we tend to focus on history of Europe instead of Art and how to apprecitate it)
12-1: Italian (with Connita who is amazing! We areplanning to go to some restaurants and caffes later on together) yes she is not married
1-4: Siesta (my practice time) and lunch
4-8: Hangout with Italian peeps
8-9:30: Dinner ( you may find this interesting, because the food is so good its like we are in a find restaurant twice a day, thus the need for 1 ½ of eating.
11:00- Lights out: But the men in the Man Cave don't sleep we prowl at the most ungodly times of the day.
One characteristic of the Italians I'm beginning to notice is how laid-backed they are. In American we hugh and puff as we pass a person walking slow on the sidewalk. Here everyone does because its so beautiful. We are encouraged to see differences between Italian culture and American culture. These differences allow me to appreciate the things I have in America: Opportunity and cleaniless. Italy: Culture and Art. We have a separate apartment to practice in and today a family below me was eating. I said Ciao, Comme sta!. The usual and I was able to hold a nice conversation with this nice family of five for a few minutes (though I had no idea what the hell they were saying). You never get the chance to do that in America, everyones so busy with their own lives it takes people a minute to enjoy life and what surrounds them. Though Italy has never won a war and has had the longest line of dictators, it is still a great country of people with a very nice culture.
I have also been eaten alive by mosquitos, BRING REPELLENT. Its crazy there are so many, fortunately there bites are as itchy as Americas and go away very soon.
Gelato Counte. We checked a few store, high end fash
Ciao
