20th - Animal Kingdom
Alright day three of DisneyWorld. Joey was in full excitement mode, Lion King was the theme of today. There was lots of singing and skipping; generally just giddy. First things first we got our shuttle to Epcot and a Disney bus to Animal Kingdom which was pretty quick! Sun was blasting down and at half nine in the morning it was very intense. I think Joey wants to tan but I was covering myself in sun lotion, I've still burnt slightly and my freckles have exploded on my face....
We headed through Animal Kingdom to Everest roller coaster. When you go for the biggest ride first thing in the morning chances are less of a queue. We had fast passes anyway but we headed in. It was made as a giant mountain of Everest and was decorated all on the inside with camping, climbing equipment. It had myths and supposed evidence of Yeti. We got on and it was deadly, obviously. It drives you to a point where the track looked all broken and then it shot backwards and we were chased by a big ol yeti! Needless to say we got on it again right after.
We were in the Asia section of the kingdom so when we left the roller coaster we wandered around. Everything is so detailed in Disney so you can walk around doing nothing but looking at stuff. There was an animal trail, so like a zoo of sorts of Asian animals. It was too hot for the Tigers to come out but we saw hippos and crocodiles and walked through an aviary. We got loads of pictures in this land, it felt like we were stopping every second to take a picture!
While we were waiting on our next fast pass ride we saw this show starting about tropical birds so we went into that. We looooooved this show, it wasn't a stupid bird riding a bicycle crap. The birds were different, there was owls and vultures and a parrot that sang songs and a raven stealing from the trainer. My FAVOURITE part was the trainer asking me stand up and hold out a dollar and this beautiful pink white bird flew over, sat on my arm and snatched my dollar! It was a hefty enough bird and I was shocked. He then flew back to his trainer but flew back to my arm and placed the dollar back in my hand. I was like aaaaaaaaaaaah, Joey next to me got a great picture.
So after that craic it was time for river Rapids, we were all psyched for it but it was a tad too tame for us. I was sitting between Joey and some big men and the other side of the rapid had little girls so I got feckin soaked. My aladdin trousers stuck to me all weird for ages after.
Our energy lulling we stopped for a big Mickey pretzel, tasty and we got a bit of fruit too (I think our bodies were crying out for vitamins by then) the fruit is crazy expensive over here. No wonder there's a health problem, if you only had a few dollars would you rather buy a box of donuts for 2 dollars or an apple for 1. I saw a bunch of bananas was 5.99 yesterday. Anyway I digress...
There was a train in the kingdom to Rafiki World so we jumped on that. Very relaxing I think I remember it from years ago. The train brought us to a centre talking about conservation and animal health. We would have done more but it suddenly started lashing rain. When it rains here it hits hard and lightening and thunder are every night. We waited a little while but after a while we just got e train back to the main area. From there we got on a safari, the rain eased to a light shower so that didn't bother us. The safari was so cool. We got into a big truck and the driver drove us through a big open forest area and then a Sahara area. It was so open and we were so close to the animals!
We grabbed a coffee from Starbucks (the only coffee option here) and downed it before getting on a dinosaur ride with a small queue. We thought it would be nothing much but damn I screamed a good few times! It was rough and dinosaurs properly jumped at my face! The ride led us to Dino Land which was a bit more carnival-ish with kids games and a big open spinny rollarcoaster in the middle which wasn't half bad. Joey was nervous cause it span a lot and he was traumatised from some spinning teacup ride from his childhood. But he enjoyed it (I think).
After all that nonsense we raced to the stage show of Lion King which was.....amazing....the costuming was colourful and so intricate. They didn't do the story of the lion king but a celebration of it. All those performers were top professionals, why they were doing a show in DisneyWorld every hour astounds me. Go be in the full Broadway show!
We had time to kill after the show before getting the bus to Epcot and the bus to the hotel so you know obviously went on the Everest Yeti ride one last time....!
