The next stop on our journey was the one we were both looking forward to - Ken and Shirleys house! (For those of you who don't know, Ken is Clare's Cousin) Wow, what a gorgeous appartment, definately the best place so far!hehe We had an awesome time with Ken and Shirley, they gave us a brilliant tour of where they live! It was very nice to feel at home for a little while!
Ken and Shirley took us out on our fist day to a place called Eumundi Markets and they were huge! We got chatting to a guy about the digeridoos he was selling and ended up having a go trying to play! Although we both sounded awful it was a laugh. When we got back to Ken and Shirleys in the afternoon we decided to have a play in their pool. Ken came in too and as he competes in the international swimming masters he was able to give us some brilliant tips and confidence in our swimming technique.
One of the days we were at Ken and Shirleys we took their bikes out for the day and cycled along the canal to the beach, along the coast, through Maloolaba which is a very rich area and into the shopping mall! We must have cycled at least 25Kms that day but it was a good ride! In the shopping mall we teased oursleves with all the gorgeous surf shops knowing we can't buy anything but still wanting to look. It was a great day actually, Tony brought himself a cool straw hat which looks awesome on him!
Ken and Shirley took us to a town called Montville high up on the hills of the rainforest. It was a very cute and quirky town. It had an all year round Christmas shop, a German shop full of cook-oo-clocks and a gorgeous fudge shop where we decided it was time for a small treat!hehe
While staying in Kawana we also got to visit Australia Zoo. For those of you who didn't know this is the late Steve Irwin's zoo. We got to hand feed Elephants, stroke Koalas, watch a crocodile show which also involved snakes, birds and lizards. It was pretty cool but unfortunately we both felt like the zoo must have been better when Steve was there to entertain guests but it was a cool day out!
We spent a week with Ken and Shirley altogether, it was nice to have a propper rest and we were able to plan virtually the rest of our trip which is amazing. We had a lot of time which we spent researching our future destinations so that we know exactly what to do when we arrive.
On the second to last night Shirley cooked an amazing roast lamb dinner as a farwell. We had brought them a present each which we gave them after dinner and we believe they liked them! It was a cheeky mug each, Kens was a chick magnet cartoon and Shirley's was a tennis babe cartoon, they reminded us of their cheeky natures so we thought it was perfect!
All that's left to say is a massive THANK YOU to Ken and Shirley!!
