Sorry that we're still catching up on past events guys, hopefully we'll catch up eventually but don't want you to miss out!
After an 8 hour bus ride to Brisbane we finally arrived and were greated by a very frinedly tourist information desk. Brisbane is a very organised city, they have public transport sussed and the people are really friendly and will just stop you on the street for a chat once they realise you're foreign. Our hostel was located just opposite the city so if we walked for 5 mins we had a brilliant view just like in the blog picture.
On the first day we did a city loop walk, over the bridge and into town and back to our hostel via the ferry. Brisbane has some great shops, we went to all the touristy ones purely because they had digeridoos and boomerangs in, even if they are made in China it was cool! Brisbane is very hot, it's getting much more humid the more we head North. In the evening we went for a walk around where the hostel is to find some dinner. We came across a strange looking man playing with his crutches, we assumed he was drunk or something and went to walk on by when he stopped us pointing at the floor and right infront of us was a 2m long python! I'm sure you can imagine our reaction!haha It slithered back into someones garden but from then on we took a torch EVERYWHERE!!haha When we got back to the hostel with food which needed cooking we realised we hadn't seen the kitchen. We went looking for it but once we'd found it we wished we hadn't! There was mouldy food in the saucepans on the work top, brown poo like stains splattered all over the cupboards and floor...as you can imagine, we went without dinner that night!haha
Our second day in Brisbane we brought a day trip ticket on the ferry. It's really cheap and you can travel up and down the river as much as you like in one day. As it was so hot we jumped on the Catameran a enjoyed the wind it created whilst looking at the city. We didn't actually do much in Brisbane although it's a gorgeous city, we just decided to enjoy it rather than booking tours.
On our final day in Brisbane we decided to get organised with the rest of our trip rather than just turning up at a place and then researching it. We went to STA where we picked up their Australia brochure and went to a travel agents and booked a flight upto Cairns for a weeks time which was brilliant! We've decided we've had enough of the East Coast, lots of people love it for the beaches, surf and booze but it's not really what we're looking for on this trip so decided to skip the rest! We had a look through the STA brochure and have found a trip through the Red Centre which looks brilliant. Dinner tonight was microwaved rice with baked beans as we didn't want to touch the kitchen but had to eat!haha
